PRESS RELEASE FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE The Bradford Ride for Mercy is presented by the Ontario Cycling Association in partnership with the Newmarket Eagles Cycling Club to raise awareness and funds for a local woman’s shelter known as “Mercy House”. The OCA is dedicated to the development and promotion of programs and services for the sport of cycling in Ontario. Select your tour whether you are an avid cyclist or recreational rider we have 2 exciting road courses designed to meet the needs of both the avid or family riders. The scenic rolling hills of Bradford, Ontario and the beautiful country side roads one can still see deer’s scampering though the bush. Both tours take the rider though the famous Holland Marsh the heartlands of Ontario’s agriculture produce. The Holland Marsh is known for the richest soil in the world and produces more than ½ of all the carrots and onions in Canada. This small-town scenic community is one of Southern Ontario’s best kept secrets. Challenge your family, friends and/or co-workers to get involved. They can participate along side you in a scenic 35 Km or 70 Km road course or they can support you with pledges. The Bradford Ride for Mercy is part of the festivities associated with Carrotfest. The Carrotfest event is rich in tradition and celebrates the areas agricultural heritage with an assortment of exhibits, food, crafts vendors and unique events all tied to the agricultural roll of the carrot and a healthy lifestyle. Now into its 10th year, Carrotfest remains a family event suitable for all. Date: Saturday August 22, 2009 Contact: www.rideformercy.com Cost: Registration Fee $25.00 plus Pledges Location: Bradford, Ontario, Canada Start Times : 70km = 8:30 am, 35km = 10am Complementary Lunch at the Danube Center CONTACT CELL DURING THE EVENT (416) 230 7514 Road Support – vehicles and expert riders will be patrolling the routes to help those who are too weary to continue or have mechanical difficulties. Rest areas will be available approx every 10km. A free lunch will be provided. Spend the afternoon visiting the famous Carrotfest and partake in the festivities, We encourage you to stay overnight at a local Campground, Motels and/or Hotels of your choice. You can create your own ride on Sunday and visit some of the local land marks like Scanlon Creek Conservation Area or the picturesque Scotch Settlement. Be part of Southern Ontario’s historic ride while supporting a worthy cause. This event is suitable families and riders of all levels. Deer still scamper through the bush at Scanlon Creek Conservation Area. This results in a pleasing mix of small town charm and big city conveniences. The world famous Holland marsh is Located in Bradford West Gwillimbury, with over 90% of the marsh’s produce processed in the area. The Soil is among the richest in the world, producing more that half of all Carrots and Onions in Canada. Many of the marsh farmers have become world leaders in automations, by creating one-of-a-kind farming machines to help them with their gruelling planting season and bountiful harvest. The “Ride for Mercy” bicycle tour will take you thought rolling hills and beautiful country side roads, through the famous Carrot fest and other local land marks. North on Simcoe Road to Line 6, West on Line 6 to 10 Side Road This Morning Leg of the Tour is Approx 34.5 km The Half Tour will Start at the "Danube Center" at Approx 10:00 am 8. After Lunch we will all depart
together North on Simcoe Road towards the Famous BWG Carrot Fest The Total Distance of the Tour is Approx 70 km. Please note that Avid riders will start at 8:30 am for the first leg of the Tour, and Recreational Riders will start at 10:00 am . You can choose to Cycle one or both of the Tour Legs. Directions From Toronto via Hwy 400 - Option A) Exit at Canal Road East then North on Simcoe Road Option B) Exit County Road 88 ( Hwy 88) East - Rigth at first Lights south on SR10 then first left line 6 then right at Simcoe Road From Toronto via Hwy 404 - Last Exit Green Lane go West right going North to Hwy 11 ( Yonge St.) - turn Left rith across from MCDonalds, then first right all the way to Simcoe Road then Turn Right Going South Remember that DownTown Bradford is Closed for Carrot Fest
